How to get to Bonn

There are two train stations serviced by long-distance routes (ICE, IC) in the vicinity.

► Bonn Central Station: this station is closest to the city centre. It is serviced by a several bus lines that run from their to our main venue, Campus Poppelsdorf.

► Siegburg/Bonn: this station is technically not in Bonn but in a neighbouring city. Especially if you are travelling from Frankfurt or Munich this stop may be more convenient. There is a metro link connecting Siegburg and Bonn (line 66) that runs every 20 minutes. Unfortunately, there is currently construction work on this route, and it will take longer than the usual 25 minutes to reach Bonn's city centre.

Bonn has a coach terminal, serviced by Flix Bus. The coach terminal is located right next to UN Campus train station, which is also serviced by bus lines 610 Duisdorf / 611 Lessenich travelling downtown. A metro stop (Heussallee / Museumsmeile) is also available within a short walking distance and offers transfer to lines 16, 18, 63, 66, and 68. Find the coach terminal on google maps here.

If possible, please use public transport to get to the conference as parking space is limited. Pay-and-display parking is provided on the campus.

Please let us know at least two weeks before the conference if you need a parking ticket, as we will need to mail you a paper pass.

Destination for your "satnav": Campusallee, 53115 Bonn.

For our international guests, we recommend travelling via Cologne/Bonn, Düsseldorf or Frankfurt airports.

► From Cologne/Bonn Airport, the SB60 express bus runs directly to Bonn Central Station. Alternatively, you can take the regional train RB 27, heading towards Koblenz, and transfer after 3 stops at Bonn-Beuel station to the tram line 62 (Dottendorf), which will take you to the city center.

► From Düsseldorf Airport, a regional express train (RE5) runs once an hour towards Koblenz. Exit at Bonn Hauptbahnhof after ~1 hour of travel.

► From Frankfurt Airport, several ICE and IC routes run through the Cologne/Bonn area. Please note that the high-speed connection from Frankfurt to Siegburg/Bonn will require a transfer via metro link to reach the city centre of Bonn.

Please use the Deutsche Bahn navigator app for finding the best route and purchasing your train fares.

How to get around in Bonn

Campus Poppelsdorf/Main Venue

► The Rotation Building is a 20-minute walk (1.3 km) from Bonn Central Station. Once you have arrived at a platform, enter the underground and follow the signs to the "Quantiusstraße" exit. Once you have exited the station, follow Quantiusstraße to the right. At the next junction, turn left into Meckenheimer Allee. Follow Meckenheimer Allee until you reach Karlrobert-Kreiten-Straße (small street opposite of the Botanical Gardens, and next to coffee roaster "roestkurve"). Turn right into Karl-Robert-Kreiten-Straße, follow the street past the junction with Carl-Troll-Straße  for about 170 metres. The Rotation Building will be on your left at the next junction (Käthe-Kümmel-Straße 1). Get the route in google maps here.

► Information for everyone participating in a lab visit: We will provide transport to the off-site facilities for the lab visits via a local taxi company. You will be picked up on Campus Poppelsdorf after the end of the last lecture for the day (4:30-4:40), and dropped-off near the lab locations. The taxis will pick you back up at a pre-arranged time, to allow you to return to Campus Poppelsdorf between 6 and 6:15 p.m.

► Restaurant Nees (by Fassbinder) where the dinner will take place, is also located on Campus Poppelsdorf. It is a low building on the left of Poppelsdorf Palace. It shares an entrance with the University's Botanical Garden, which is signposted throughout the neighbourhood.

Facilities Campus Endenich (Am Propsthof 49, 53121 Bonn)

► We would generally advise to take one of the provided taxis to travel to and back from Campus Endenich. The fares for the pre-arranged trip is covered by the conference tickets. A member of the hosting lab will meet you and return you to th drop-off point. Because this campus is not too far away, somebody from our team volunteered to walk over with anybody who would prefer a stroll in these temperatures. The Vektor Building on Campus Endenich, home to both, caian's VR lab and the VCI is located a 26-minute walk (1.9 km) from the main converence venue in Poppelsdorf. Get the route on google maps here.

Facilities Campus Venusberg (Building 81)

► We would generally advise against walking this 4.2 km distance, as most of it is uphill, and may exceed the time scheduled for transit. We recommend taking the provided transport option (taxi) to reach the labs on top of the hill. The fares for the pre-arranged trip is covered by the conference tickets. A member of the hosting lab will meet you and return you to the drop-off point. If you choose to travel to Venusberg by car, please note that the fee for parking on clinic grounds is not covered by the conference fee.

Movement Lab Facility in Duisdorf (Heilsbachstraße 16, 53123 Bonn)

► We would generally advise against walking this 4.1 km distance, as it may exceed the time scheduled for transit. We recommend taking the provided transport option (taxi) to reach the labs on top of the hill. The fares for the pre-arranged trip is covered by the conference tickets. A member of the hosting lab will travel with you and return you to the drop-off point. If you choose to travel to Duisdorf by car, we unfortunately cannot help you with parking.

Please note that public transport is not included in your conference ticket. Before riding on public transport, you will need to purchase your fare either with cash on the transport or via the local public transport app (recommended). Find out more about navigating and paying for public transport in the Cologne/Bonn area on the website of the local transport authority, named VRS here. There is also an app to facilitate ticket purchases called "eezy.nrw," where you just enter your starting point, swipe/"check-out" at the end of your trip, and pay your fare via Google or apple pay.
